Museums & Learning
“By taking the time to understand our individual organisational needs and circumstances, as well as our collection, Elee succeeded in providing a range of teaching resources that are educational, fun and flexible. Her own museum experience also ensured an understanding of museum education and the requirements of schools. By providing regular progress reports Elee displayed her skill as an organiser, resulting in a project that was on time and within budget.” Northampton Museum & Art Gallery
Projects and Learning resources
Developing high quality resources for visitors of all ages, covering a wide range of science, citizenship and historical themes.
- Come Alive With Science for Ignition*. I worked as science practitioner on a seven week project to creatively engage primary school children with science.
- “The Science Behind the Shoe” for Northampton Museum & Art Gallery. A set of resources for school and family audiences, including interactive workshops, gallery activities and web resources.
- Campaign! Make an Impact at the Thackray Museum, and in association with the British Library, on the subject of the History of Contraceptives. Working for half a term with two Year 9 classes, using the museum collections to explore the 20th century campaign for birth control and to help students to produce their own campaigns.
- Fantastic Plastic at the Thackray Museum: working with secondary science teachers to develop a set of medical plastics loans boxes, web games and accompanying resources.
- Working with an artist to produce two anatomical dolls, ‘Anna’ and ‘Tommy’ for Thinktank. Following a consultation with Foundation stage children, I developed the ‘Healthy Bodies’ workshop and co-developed the outreach science show of the same name.
- Producing family learning activities on a wide range of themes, including shells, flight, astronomy, genetics, Chinese medicine, skeletons, anatomy, Victorian life and imagined medicines. These have taken various formats, including creative activities, large scale artworks, trails, passports, costumed interpretation and hands-on science activities.
- Developing science shows, story-based sessions, planetarium shows, workshops, interactive gallery trails, debates and lab sessions for school groups across an extensive range of ages and abilities.
- Producing computer and hand-drawn graphics for Thinktank and the Thackray Museum.
Working with visitors
Delivering science shows, workshops, planetarium shows and outreach sessions to school and family groups of all sizes, ages and abilities. Some examples are:
- Leading hundreds of demo-based science shows for all ages, from nursery groups to late teens to families.
- Leading hundreds of workshops, in the classroom and lab, for school groups of all ages. I maintain an enjoyable and informative inquiry-based session, whilst getting the best from all students.
- I am trained in working with children with learning difficulties, and have worked in the museum and on school outreach with groups with moderate and severe learning difficulties.
- Working on longer-term projects, building successful working relationships with teachers and students.
- Working with families on museum activities, ensuring that adults and children together find the activity enjoyable and fulfilling.
